Karolin Klüppel’s (*1985) photographs of adolescent girls provide insight into the world and culture of the Khasi, one of the few matrilineal ethnicities in South Asia. Here, girls are regarded the most precious part of the family: they pass on the name, take care of their parents, and manage the family property. Only the birth of a daughter guarantees the continuity of the clan.

Between 2013 and 2015, the photographer spent a total of ten months in the Indian Khasi village of Mawlynnong, where she captured magical images of an extraordinary culture.

For every copy sold of the special edition, € 25 will be donated to Yasmin’s family, to help her parents build their own home.
